Commission Info

Commission Info

IMPORTANT NOTE: In requesting a commission from myself, Mel Miller, the commissioner agrees to read and adhere to the following information provided in the following document. The following commission prices are for NON-COMMERCIAL COMMISSIONS only: They are not to be resold or marketed, and while the commissioner retains copyright to the subject their commission depicts, I retain copyright to the image itself. If you would like commercial artwork created for publication or professional use of any kind, you are welcome to contact me directly at melmillerart@gmail.com to arrange a contract bid.

Originals: You are more then welcome to request the original line-art to your commission. I only require that commissioners state up front that they would like to obtain the original, as I will need to add an additional $6 to the commission price for shipping and packing material costs.

Payment: Payments are to be made up front. At the moment, I'm only able to accept payments via Paypal. Please send payments as personal payments ONLY, as any other option would require extra fees. Please contact me for the proper email address needed to send payment via Paypal.

Commission List: Alongside email correspondence, you can track the progress of my commissions on my official art blog. My Current Commission List is located in the right sidebar of melmillerart.blogspot.com [link] just below the "Browse Blog By Category" section.

WAITING LIST: For anyone interested in snagging a commission slot as they free up, I'd be quiet happy to add you to my current waiting list. Anyone on the waiting list will be contacted first when commission slots become available, before I make any public announcements regarding available commission slots. Please review my commission information carefully and email me directly at MelMillerArtATgmailDOTcom if you would like to be added.

The Process: I will be open for a set number of commission slots at a time, and will complete each commission in the order in which they are received. If you would like to acquire a commission, contact me at melmillerart@gmail.com - please note that commission requests MUST be sent to this email address. I cannot take requests from website forums or comment sections, as I offer commissions on multiple websites, and it would be to complicated to run a first-come-first-serve request line in any other manner.

In your Commission Request Email, please include information on the type of commission you are interested in, along with a detailed description of your character(s), any specific details you would like to see portrayed such as pose, costuming or expression, as well as pre-existing reference images of your character(s). Please be very precise and detailed with what you would like (Unless you'd like to give me free reign creatively and have it be a surprise for you - I certainly wouldn't complain there either! lol) as I wish nothing more then to see to it that you enjoy the end result. I will price your commission based on this email, and assign your work its slot.

NOTE: DO NOT, under any circumstance send me obscene or sexually explicit reference material for your character. I do not create pornographic artwork on commission. In turn, I do not want to stare at pornographic reference images for the 10-odd hours it may take me to complete a commission. If you sincerely do not have any other reference image of your character then one with bulging genitalia, please take the brief time needed to censor the material before sending it my way. I withhold the right to deny a commission if a commissioner cannot respect this request.

Please be aware that I am working on multiple projects along side of commissions at any given time, including animated shorts and commercial commission projects - as a result, I divide my time between these things equally. I will do my absolute best to give you an accurate projection of the length of time it will take to complete your commission once I reach your commission slot. I do ask, however, that my commissioners be understanding of my rather intense work schedule while I work on their piece.

Once you receive a slot, I require payment up front in full before I begin your image. When I reach your slot, pending I have already received payment, I will contact you immediately to establish how long it will take to complete your image. That amount of time will begin once and only once I reach your individual commission slot, after completing the works of the commissioners in line before you.

As you could imagine, the length of time for each piece will vary depending on the complexity of the image itself - anywhere from two days to a week or two, pending the commissioner is prompt in responding to email correspondence. If anything were to come up that would cause me to take longer then expected on an image, I will contact you immediately to let you know. If I have not received payment by the time I reach your slot, your slot will be pushed back by one and the next commissioner in line will have their work completed first. (Please note that, outside of special circumstances, if I have not received payment within two weeks of assigning a commission slot, you will lose your spot entirely until you are ready to restart the commission process - this, out of fairness, frees up the space for able and waiting commissioners.)

During the creation process, you will receive two sketches via email. The first sketch gives you the opportunity to make revisions - this is your only chance to request revisions to your line art, so please use this opportunity wisely. The second sketch is a preview of what your final image will look like including the revisions you requested based on the first sketch. You will also receive the preliminary flat-color preview of their commission, with the opportunity to request revisions to the colors only. (Lines are final after their revision during the sketch stage.)

IMPORTANT: Again, commissions are allowed one revision to the image's line art sketch phase, and one revision to the image's flat colors in its flats stage. Lines and colors beyond these revisions are final. Maintaining minimal revisions allows me to keep commissions at a reasonable price for non-commercial purchasers, as it allows me to create them on a more time-friendly basis.

Any revisions requested beyond these two opportunities will automatically be charged a professional hourly rate of $25-$30 per hour, depending on the complexity of the revisions requested. Commissioners are requested to pay the additional fee up front before receiving the results of the additional revisions.

Content Restrictions: I will not illustrate pornographic or fetish-related images, anything involving hateful, racist, or bigoted imagery or symbolism, or excess amounts of gore.

PLEASE NOTE: I reserve the right to add an additional by-case plus-charge for characters or images requiring an excess amount of detail to account for the extra time it would take to illustrate them. I also reserve the right to deny a commission offer if the content being requested is at all objectable to the rules previously stated.

Let me Reiterate:

Please note that I accept commission requests through email to melmillerart@gmail.com only.

As I offer commissions through multiple different websites, I cannot accept commission requests through any other manner then through email . Requests made through forum commenting, DeviantArt Notes, journal or blog comments will likely be passed up or asked to email me directly with their offers - Commissioners should contact me directly at melmillerartATgmailDOTcom to get their commission slot. It's the most streamline way for me to keep everyone's work in order on a fair, first-come-first-serve basis. Keeping all request correspondence via email will also allow me to spend less time trying to juggle messages from multiple sites, and more time creating as awesome a piece for you as I can manage - And that is, by all means, best for us all ;)

Thanks, everyone!

Hey all! So after quite a bit of deliberation, I decided to bite the bullet and change my DevaiantArt name.  After 9 years as Anathemasremedy (a name that seemed like a GREAT idea just out of high school. So edgy. lol) I've now switched to =Javadoodle - which is, consequently, also the name of my Art-Dedicated Tumblr [link]

Why the change? Well, honestly - imagine yourself in the middle of a bustling comic book convention or film festival after-party, and someone asks you what your handle is on DA... and you have to try and not only say, but spell and explain "anathemasremedy" while awkwardly trying to scrawl the thing down on a napkin or scrap paper because there's no way on earth the poor person is going to recall it later due to its length and sheer clusterfuckian nature. I've had this happen so many times over the years that it's almost comedic, and now that I have the opportunity to fix what really has become a problem - boy howdy! I'm on it!

So, =Javadoodle it is! Something simple, fun, puts a smile on my face when I say it (As opposed to an apologetic "What was I thinking?" grimace) and hopefully infinitely easier to share and recall on the fly.

Thanks for sticking with me, everyone. You guys are the best!

Cheers,
Mel
